Ebola Virus - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Ebola virus Definition

An extremely contagious filovirus causing an acute, usually fatal hemorrhagic fever and spread through contact with bodily fluids of infected persons and by airborne particles. A notoriously deadly virus that causes fearsome symptoms, the most prominent being high fever and massive internal bleeding.

The four strains of the Ebola virus are known to exist may be:

  • Ebola Zaire
  • Ebola Sudan
  • Ebola Tai
  • Ebola Reston

The prognosis for Ebola virus disease is extremely poor. Ebola virus kills as many as 90% of the people it infects. The incubation period ranges from 2 to 21 days. Ebola virus is also known as Ebola Virus Infection, and Viral Hemorrhagic Fever.

Ebola virus Causes

Ebola virus is a notoriously deadly virus that causes fearsome symptoms, the most prominent being high fever and massive internal bleeding. Ebola virus is one of the viruses that is capable of causing hemorrhagic fever. Infection with Ebola virus in humans is incidental - humans do not "carry" the virus. Ebola virus may causes shock and severe bleeding abnormalities. Ebola virus has been made newsworthy worldwide because of its destructive potential

Ebola hemorrhagic fever or Ebola fever is a viral disease that has been limited to parts of Africa. It has been made newsworthy worldwide because of its destructive potential. Within a week, a raised rash appears over the entire body. Hemorrhaging generally occurs from the gastrointestinal tract, causing the patient to bleed from both the mouth and rectum.

Ebola virus Symptoms

The patient's health history usually reveals contact with an infected person. However, no clear line of infection may be apparent at the beginning of an Ebola virus outbreak. The patient usually complains of flulike signs and symptoms.

The symptoms of the ebola virus may be given:

  • headache
  • malaise
  • coma
  • shock
  • arthritis
  • backache
  • myalgia
  • fatigue
  • high fever
  • sore throat
  • bloody nose
  • bloody eyes
  • vomiting
  • seizures,
  • chest pain
  • conjunctivitis
  • internal hemorrhage
  • external hemorrhage
  • progressing to severe diarrhea

Ebola virus Treatments

There is no specific treatment for the disease. Currently, patients receive supportive therapy.

The patient will be hospitalized and will likely need intensive care.

The patient may be received replacement of plasma heparin before the onset of clinical shock.

Ebola fever dies, it is equally important that direct contact with the body of the deceased patient be prevented.

There will be an attempt to correct bleeding abnormalities, often including transfusions of platelets and/or fresh blood.
